New Hampshire: Gun Bills Scheduled for Floor Votes on Thursday

On Thursday, March 9th, the New Hampshire House and Senate will be voting on numerous gun bills.  NRA members and Second Amendment supporters are urged to contact lawmakers and request that they reject these anti-gun measures. Please contact New Hampshire lawmakers NOW and ask them to OPPOSE ALL anti-gun measures that would place further burdens on law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen!

Some of the more egregious proposals are:

House Bill 32 expands the “safe-school zone” to 1,000 feet surrounding any school or school bus and adds a criminal penalty to any gun owner carrying a firearm within that zone. This bill would ensnare law-abiding citizens and would not advance public safety.

House Bill 59 requires background checks for the commercial sale of firearms, already mandated under federal law.  This duplicative and unnecessary legislation is simply a first attempt to enact so-called “universal background checks” for the purchase of firearms in New Hampshire.  The bill would do nothing to improve public safety and its effectiveness would depend on requiring gun registration.

House Bill 106 allows ex parte orders to suspend Second Amendment rights without adequate due process. Further, if the order is vacated after an individual surrenders their firearms, that individual will have to go to court to have their property returned, unlike when the court wrongfully took it away. Constitutional rights should only be restricted with sufficient due process of law. Due process limits restrictions on constitutional rights to only serious convictions and adjudications that provide procedural protections to the accused, which results in more reliable proceedings.

Again, please contact New Hampshire lawmakers and urge them to OPPOSE any and all anti-gun measures that will do nothing to reduce violent crime in the Granite State, and will only burden law-abiding citizens!
