Colorado: Semi-Auto Ban Introduced in General Assembly

Anti-Gun extremist State Reps. Tim Hernandez (D-04) and Elisabeth Epps (D-06) introduced House Bill 24-1292, a bill banning the manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling, offering to sell, or transferring ownership of so called “assault weapons”. Additionally, HB24-1292, defines AK and AR platforms and all their variants as assault weapons and would be banned under this legislation. Semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 are the most popular rifles in the United States for home protection and defensive skills-based firearm training and marksmanship competitions, and they’re increasingly popular among hunters.

Anti-gun lawmakers in Colorado claim this is an attempt to stop mass shootings, yet numerous studies have been conducted regarding the use and subsequent bans of semi-automatic rifles and always the results are the same; there are no discernable effects on violent crime or homicide rates. Other Legislation on the Move:

SB24-066, legislation requiring the use of merchant category codes by payment processors to identify firearm, firearm accessories, and ammunition purchases passed out of the Senate Business, Labor, and Technology Committee and is now eligible for a vote on the Senate Floor.

HB24-1270, legislation mandating firearm owners to have liability insurance when owning or purchasing a gun, was introduced and has been referred to the House Business Affairs & Labor Committee. 

HB24-1174, legislation requiring extremely stringent and burdensome training requirements for concealed carry permit applicants and requiring class instructors to be certified by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to teach, passed out of the House Judiciary Committee and is now eligible for a vote on the House Floor.
