Tim Hernandez (D-04) and Elisabeth Epps (D-06) introduced House Bill 24-1292, a bill banning the manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling, offering to sell, or transferring ownership of so called “assault weapons”. Additionally, HB24-1292, defines AK and AR platforms and all their variants as assault weapons and would be banned under this legislation. Semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 are the most popular rifles in the United States for home protection and defensive skills-based firearm training and marksmanship competitions, and they’re increasingly popular among hunters.

Anti-gun lawmakers in Colorado claim this is an attempt to stop mass shootings, yet numerous studies have been conducted regarding the use and subsequent bans of semi-automatic rifles and always the results are the same; there are no discernable effects on violent crime or homicide rates.
