These bills would penalize gun owners for failing to report a lost or stolen firearm and would mandate unreasonable storage requirements. HF 601 victimizes gun owners who suffer loss or theft of their property, with harsh criminal penalties if they do not report lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours of discovering them missing.
HF 4300 imposes unreasonable firearm storage requirements impeding one's ability to engage in self-defense and imposes criminal penalties for violations. HF 4300 mandates a one size all fits all approach, regardless of personal circumstances and needs. This could further harm a victim of a crime by subjecting them to criminal penalties for improper storage.
