Yesterday, January 30th, Senate Bill 81, providing financial privacy protections for firearm purchasers, passed the Senate by a vote of 33 to 2. The legislation will now be transmitted to the House for further consideration.
Senate Bill 81 will prohibit the use of firearm-specific Merchant Category Codes, which could be used to track firearm purchases and create a registry of lawful gun buyers. This is an important protection for gun owners, protecting private purchasing data from abuse by third parties. For more information click here.
