Today, the House Judiciary Sub-Committee passed House Study Bill 262, legislation that would lower the age to obtain a concealed carry permit to 18 years of age. It will now head to the House Judiciary Committee, where it is eligible for a vote before the entire committee. HSB 262: Currently, under Iowa law, an individual must be 21 years or older to apply for a non-professional concealed carry permit. HSB 262 would lower that age to 18 years old. Given that recent court rulings have stated 18-20-year-olds cannot be barred from carrying for self-defense, the Iowa legislature is proactively trying to address this issue.
