Hawaii: Gun Ban Bills Scheduled for Hearing in House Judiciary Committee

Tomorrow, March 13th at 2:00pm the House Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing on Senate Bill 308 and Senate Bill 401. Please consider submitting testimony OPPOSING SB 308 and SB 401 through the Hawaii Legislative website. For help creating an account and submitting testimony, click here.

Senate Bill 308, as introduced, would have expanded the existing ban on standard capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds to apply to all firearms, not just pistols. This bill was amended in the Senate Judiciary Committee and will now impose a ban on magazines capable of holding more than 30 rounds for rifles and shotguns.

Senate Bill 401 would prohibit the possession of any firearm capable of firing ammunition of 50 caliber or higher. SB401 was amended in the Senate Judiciary Committee to exclude shotguns from the proposed ban and would now also provide an exception for firearms covered by the ban that are legally registered as of the effective date of the bill.

Please stay tuned to your email inbox and www.nraila.com for additional updates throughout the session.
