On Monday, March 17th, the Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife held a committee vote on LD 716, "An Act to Restrict the Hunting of Coyotes." Thanks to the grassroots efforts of NRA members and hunting rights advocates, this bill received a unanimous "ought not to pass" report. This bill now heads to the floor of the House of Representatives, where it will likely be defeated without a roll call vote.
LD 716, "An Act to Restrict the Hunting of Coyotes," seeks to place arbitrary restrictions on coyote hunting in Maine. If passed, this law would shorten the coyote hunting season and outlaw standard coyote hunting practices. This legislation is based on the emotion of an anti-hunting narrative rather than fact-based decisions consistent with the North American model of wildlife conservation.
