When we speculated that the recent court decision on Ballot Measure 114 would embolden anti-gun radicals in the legislature, we meant it. On Monday, April 7th, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hear a slew of anti-gun legislation, including waiting periods and gun-free zone expansions. Please contact members of the committee by using the TAKE ACTION button below and urge them to OPPOSE these bills!
SB 429 creates a 72-hour waiting period for the purchase of firearms and firearm parts.
SB 696 creates the crime of unlawful transport, manufacture, or transfer of a "rapid-fire activator."
SB 697 prohibits a person under 21 years of age from possessing firearms, with very limited exceptions. This bill will eradicate youth shooting sports and youth hunting in the state.
SB 698 expands gun-free zones by authorizing the governing bodies of certain public entities that own or control public buildings to adopt a policy, ordinance, or regulation to prohibit the possession of firearms even by concealed handgun license holders.
In addition, a placeholder gun control bill has also been introduced in the Senate. Senate Bill 243, simply titled "Relating to firearms," will likely relate to background checks but could be used to advance any number of gun control ideas.
