Over the weekend, the Illinois General Assembly adjourned the 2025 legislative session, but not before advancing two major anti-gun bills. Both House Bill 850 and Senate Bill 8 passed the legislature and now await action from Governor JB Pritzker. Please use the Take Action button below to contact the Governor and urge him to VETO HB 850 and SB 8.
HB 850 makes the right to appeal a license revocation conditional on the individual first surrendering all firearms and submitting a form disclosing every firearm they own. By requiring firearm disclosure and seizure before an appeal can be made, the bill inverts due process, forcing citizens to relinquish their rights in order to seek their restoration. Additionally, the bill requires individuals to exhaust all administrative remedies before accessing the courts, potentially resulting in lengthy delays before any judicial review can take place.
SB 8 requires individuals to lock up all firearms in their home, vehicle, building or other structure. Under current law, individuals are required to safely store firearms in areas not accessible to anyone under 14. This legislation increases the age to 18 and includes prohibited persons and “at risk” individuals. This legislation could potentially strip law-abiding owners of their rights based on the actions of criminals and subjects them to civil fines up to $10,000.
Stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website for further updates as these bills move to the Governor’s desk.
