Ocean State Gun Owners still have an opportunity to stop the sweeping semi-auto ban that passed the house Thursday by a vote of 43-28, but we need all hands on deck. H.5436/S.359 still must clear the Senate, providing one final opportunity to block this legislation before heading to the Governor's desk. Please use the Take Action button to contact your Senator immediately and request a NO vote on S.359/H.5436.
S.359/H.5436 is a sweeping semi-auto ban, falsely dubbed an “assault weapons ban.” If passed, this legislation would ban scores of commonly owned rifles, handguns, and shotguns in the Ocean State. The legislative session is nearing completion for 2025, but we need to sustain pressure until the end.
Despite claims by the gun control community, this legislation would have no impact on public safety. While this legislation would disarm law-abiding citizens, criminals, who by definition do not follow the law, will continue to obtain and possess semi-automatic firearms in Rhode Island illegally.
This legislation still needs to pass the Senate. Our best shot at defeating this unconstitutional legislation has always been in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Therefore, it is imperative that you contact your Senator now. Even if you have previously acted, we are asking that you use the take-action button now. It is easy to do, and it is critical that we demonstrate to elected officials that there is widespread opposition to this legislation.
Stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website for further updates as this legislation moves through the Senate.
