Maine: Red Flag Hearing TOMORROW

After repeated calls by NRA members, state gun rights groups, and a bipartisan coalition of pro-gun lawmakers, Democrat leaders have backed down and have now scheduled a public hearing for TOMORROW, JUNE 11th, at 3:00PM. The hearing on Bloomberg's Red Flag Referendum will be held by the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary, on the fourth floor of the Maine State House. NRA members and Second Amendment advocates are urged to attend the hearing and voice their OPPOSITION to this radical Red Flag referendum. Those who are unable to attend in person should sign up to testify via Zoom HERE.

Maine's Red Flag referendum seeks to implement laws that would allow individuals to petition a court to suspend a person’s Second Amendment rights and to order the seizure of the person’s guns, despite that person never having been charged with or convicted of a crime. Such orders, based on weak and nebulous standards, can be issued before the gun owner is provided the opportunity to be heard or to present evidence. Governor Janet Mills (D) and other prominent Democrats have opposed this proposal, citing that it will "undermine" current Maine law.
