Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 8–6 to advance Senate Bill 359 Sub A, a revised version of the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban.” The bill now heads to the full Senate for a vote this Friday, June 20, as lawmakers rush to wrap up the 2025 session. Please use the Take Action button below to contact your state Senator and urge them to OPPOSE S.359A.
S.359A bans the manufacture, sale, transfer, and purchase of a broad list of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms including rifles, shotguns, and handguns based on cosmetic or ergonomic features. This includes firearms with folding stocks, pistol grips, threaded barrels, shrouds, or fixed magazine capacities beyond specific limits. This bill makes it a felony offense—punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine—for any individual to manufacture, sell, transfer, or purchase such a firearm after the effective date.
If passed by the Senate, S.359A would move to the House for consideration. While the House version (H.5436A) was not advanced by the Senate Judiciary Committee, it could also be revived for a floor vote. This provides two active vehicles for getting the bill passed before adjournment. That’s why your action is critical right now.
