On Friday the California State Legislature adjourned the 2025 legislative session in typical California fashion, advancing anti-gun legislation to Governor Newsom's desk. Contact Governor Newsome today and urge his veto of AB 1078, AB 1127, AB 1263 and SB 704!
Assembly Bill 1078 makes several provisions to California’s firearm laws, most notably, limiting residents to three firearm purchases within a 30-day period. California previously enacted a “one-gun-a-month” law, which a U.S. District Court struck down as unconstitutional. AB 1078 is an effort to sidestep this ruling and once again impose prohibitions on firearm purchases for law-abiding Californians.
Assembly Bill 1127 prohibits firearms dealers from selling certain semi-automatic pistols. While the stated intent is to restrict individuals from converting pistols into automatic “machine guns”, federal law already prohibits devices that convert semi-automatic firearms to fire automatically. AB 1127 is an attempt to further villainize certain categories of firearms and advance California's gun ban agenda.
Assembly Bill 1263 creates a new crime for “knowingly or willfully” causing another person to unlawfully manufacture a firearm. This vague and redundant measure adds yet another layer of criminalization for gun owners.
Senate Bill 704 requires firearm barrels to be sold or transferred only through licensed dealers and with a background check. This unnecessary restriction burdens law-abiding gun owners with more red tape for basic firearm components.
