On Tuesday, another anti-gun bill was defeated on the House floor, failing to receive approval by a 101-102 vote.
HB 1866 would ban so-called “machine gun conversion” devices. These devices are already illegal under both federal and state law. The bill is especially problematic due to discrepancies in definitions with existing federal statutes, making otherwise law-abiding gun owners vulnerable to violations. In addition, HB 1866 uses vague “rate of fire” language, which could potentially ban legal, commonly owned hardware, including competition triggers.
NRA members and Second Amendment supporters made a difference this week with their activism, helping defeat three of the four gun control bills that were considered.
