For someone who has claimed to be"...deeply mindful and respectful of the Second Amendment and people’s Constitutional rights,” Governor Gavin Newsom has once again proven that actions speak louder than words.
Last week, Governor Newsom signed four anti-gun bills advanced by the legislature this session, bringing him to over 30 anti-gun laws signed during his tenure as Governor.
Assembly Bill 1078 makes several provisions to California’s firearm laws, most notably, limiting residents to three firearm purchases within a 30-day period. California previously enacted a “one-gun-a-month” law, which a U.S. District Court struck down as unconstitutional. AB 1078 is an effort to sidestep this ruling and once again impose prohibitions on firearm purchases for law-abiding Californians.
Assembly Bill 1127 prohibits firearms dealers from selling certain semi-automatic pistols. While the stated intent is to restrict individuals from converting pistols into automatic “machine guns”, federal law already prohibits devices that convert semi-automatic firearms to fire automatically. AB 1127 is an attempt to further villainize certain categories of firearms and advance California's gun ban agenda. Though not mentioned by name, the clear target of this legislation is a complete ban on Glock platform firearms in California.
Assembly Bill 1263 creates a new crime for “knowingly or willfully” causing another person to unlawfully manufacture a firearm. This vague and redundant measure adds yet another layer of criminalization for gun owners.
Senate Bill 704 requires firearm barrels to be sold or transferred only through licensed dealers and with a background check. This unnecessary restriction burdens law-abiding gun owners with more red tape for basic firearm components.
On the passage of AB1127, John Commerford, NRA-ILA Executive Director, said:
Our message to Governor Newsom is simple: we will see you in court.
Gavin Newsom and his gang of progressive politicians in California are continuing their crusade against constitutional rights. Once again, they are attempting to violate landmark Supreme Court decisions and disarm law-abiding citizens by banning some of the most commonly owned handguns in America.
This flagrant violation of rights cannot, and will not, go unchecked.
NRA will explore all legal options to fight these laws. Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for updates.
