On Tuesday, January 20th, the Alaska Legislature begins the 2026 legislative session. As in 2025, the Legislature can expect to see both pro and anti-gun agendas this year, and anti-gunners have a head start with a pre-filed gun control bill, Senate Bill 203.
SB 203 prohibits the sale and possession of “machine gun conversion devices,” which are already banned at the federal level. This bill is nothing more than an attempt to gain favor with radical anti-gunners in the lower 48, as making it illegal to possess an already illegal device is redundant.
