New Mexico: Anti-Gun Legislation to be heard Wednesday in Senate Committee

Tomorrow, the New Mexico Senate Health & Public Affairs Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on an omnibus gun control package that would severely undermine the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding New Mexicans and threaten the viability of local firearm retailers. Use the Take Action link below to contact your elected officials and express your strong opposition to SB 17.

Senate Bill 17, introduced by Micaelita Debbie O’Malley, Andrea Romero, and Heather Berghmans, would unconstitutionally strip law-abiding New Mexicans of their Second Amendment rights by banning common gas-operated semiautomatic firearms, .50 caliber rifles, and magazines holding more than ten rounds under the guise of "extremely dangerous weapons." The act further targets the industry by imposing excessive and costly bureaucratic mandates on local firearm dealers, including invasive "site hardening" security measures and 24-hour response requirements for law enforcement trace requests. Finally, it compromises the privacy of peaceful citizens through centralized record-keeping of purchaser identities and serial numbers while threatening dealers with felony charges for technical compliance errors.
