Maryland: Gun Bills in Committee This Week

This week, multiple committees in Annapolis will hear legislation impacting the rights of law-abiding gun owners, including proposals to ban common semi-automatic pistols, prohibit lead ammunition for hunting, and advance a long-overdue reform to Maryland’s seven-day waiting period. Please use the TAKE ACTION button below to contact members of the appropriate committees and urge them to OPPOSE the semi-automatic handgun ban and lead ammunition ban and SUPPORT the waiting period exemption.

Senate Bill 181 – Lead Ammunition Ban
Hearing: Tuesday, February 3rd | Senate Education, Energy, and the Environment Committee

Senate Bill 181 would phase out lead ammunition for hunting all game species in Maryland by 2029, increasing costs for hunters and limiting ammunition options while setting a dangerous precedent for future restrictions.

House Bill 126 – Waiting Period Exemption
Hearing: Wednesday, February 4th | House Judiciary Committee

House Bill 126 would create a targeted exemption from Maryland’s seven-day waiting period for regulated firearms for active and retired law enforcement officers and individuals who hold a Permit to Wear, Carry, or Transport a Handgun.

Senate Bill 334 – Semi-Automatic Handgun Ban
Hearing: Thursday, February 5th | Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee

Senate Bill 334 would ban so-called “machine gun convertible pistols,” using vague and overbroad language that targets many common semi-automatic handguns, including Gen 5 and older Glock pistols, simply because criminals might illegally modify them with conversion devices. These devices are already illegal, and SB 334 punishes lawful gun owners for criminal misuse.
