NEW MEXICO HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE APPROVES PERSONAL PROTECTION ACT!

For the first time in the history of the movement to pass "Right To Carry" in New Mexico, the House Judiciary Committee approved SB 148, the Personal Protection Act sponsored by Sen. Shannon Robinson, on a 6-3 vote. Thanks to your phone calls, the committee rejected amendments requiring annual renewal of carry licenses, allowing local governments to ban carrying within their borders, and a four-year sunset provision on the proposed law. Special thanks should go out to the Judiciary committee members who supported SB 148 (indicated with a "Y" next to their names.)

SB 148 still must pass the House Appropriations Committee and the full House -- all before the Legislature adjourns on Saturday, March 17. That`s why it is critical that every gun owner, sportsmen and law-abiding citizen who supports "Right To Carry" do the following:

  • Call House Appropriations Committee members and urge them to support SB 148 with no gutting amendments. Committee members are indicated with an asterisk (*) below. Call them even if you don`t live in their districts, because they`ll determine whether your State Representative ever gets to vote on passage of this bill.

  • Call your State Representative again this week and urge him or her to work to PASS SB 148 THIS YEAR. As crunch time comes in the last week of session, many competing interests will be vying for your legislators` attention. It`s important that you let your state lawmakers know how significant passage of SB 148 is to you -- their voting constituents.

  • Email this important notice to at least three other NRA members who support "Right To Carry." Your calls will make a difference in the fight to get SB 148 passed this year!
