"I don`t believe in any firearms being owned by civilians under any circumstances,
concealed or not concealable."
Los Angeles City Councilmember Nick Pacheco

City of Los Angeles Public Safety Committee Hearing, March 19th, 2001.
As reported by Loren Keller, City News Service

At Monday`s Los Angeles Public Safety Committee meeting, Councilmember and City Attorney Candidate Mike Feuer`s small handgun ban was passed on to the full City Council for consideration by a 2-0 vote. This, in spite of testimony from various members of the gun-owning community, including representatives from the Second Amendment Sisters, NRA`s Disabled Shooting Services Division, CRPA, and NRA Members Councils.

The ordinance will be presented to the City Council for first consideration on Wednesday, March 21st. Since there is some question as to whether there will be public comment allowed at this meeting, it is very important for you to call, fax, and e-mail members of the City Council to voice your opposition. The meeting will be held at 200 N. Main Street, Room 300, with the meeting beginning at 10:00AM. The ""ultracompact"" handgun ban proposal is Agenda Item 13, so it should be heard fairly early on.

A copy of the "ultracompact" handgun ordinance is available on the NRA-ILA website`s State and Local section under the California heading. The ordinance would ban the sale or transfer (even temporary) of any firearm which has an overall length of less than six and three-quarter inches or less than an overall height of four and one-half inches with the magazine detached. And would make it a crime to loan or "transfer" these guns to a friend at the range.

In addition, there is a slim chance that the three ammunition ban & licensing proposals by Councilmembers Hernandez, Miscikowsiki and Feuer will be heard on Wednesday, March 21 as well. These proposals would ban the sale of certain types of ammunition and require a license for the purchase of ammunition that would have to be renewed on a yearly basis.
