Senate Is Now Key For Colorado Right To Carry

Friday, May 3, 2002

This week, the Senate Agriculture Committee passed HB 1410, sponsored by Rep. Lois Tochtrop (D-34) and Sen. Ken Chlouber (R-4). The bill, which would establish a "Shall-Issue" Right to Carry permit system,  will be heard by the Senate Appropriations Committee Monday, May 6, where the bill`s future may come down to one vote. There are three things you can do to help.  First, please contact the Appropriations Committee and urge them to allow HB 1410 to be heard by the entire Senate.

Here`s how to contact the Appropriations Committee Members:

Senator Peggy Reeves:  303-866-4841                            Senator Penfield Tate: 303-866-4864

Senator Ken Chlouber: 303-866-4869                              Senator Rob Hernandez: 303-866-4862

Senator Doug Lamborn: 303-866-4835                            Senator Doug Linkhart: 303-866-4861

Senator Alice Nichol: 303-866-4863                                 Senator Dave Owen: 303-866-2586

When HB 1410 comes out of committee, it is then up to Senate Majority Leader Bill Thiebault (D-3) to schedule a hearing in the Senate. The second thing you can do to help is call Majority Leader Thiebault at (303) 866-3341 and ask him put HB 1410 on the calendar.

The final step is calling your own Senator and urging him to support the House version of HB1410. Several Senators have expressed a desire to "gut" the bill with amendments, so it is key that the original version of HB 1410 pass. You can call your Senator at (303) 866-2316, or use the "Write Your Reps" tool.

The session ends Wednesday at midnight, so it is vital that you act now!
