Attention All Northern Virginia Shooters: Bull Run Shooting Center Is In Trouble!
Tuesday, July 13, 2004
Bull Run Shooting Center is in trouble! Recently the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NVRPA) cut back the weeknight hours at Bull Run Shooting Center. Only a few short years ago, shooters could shoot trap, skeet, 5-stand and wobble trap until 9:30 at night, now the shooting center will close at 8:00 pm, and the facility will be closed completely on Mondays. That means that shooters who have to fight the typical northern Virginia traffic will have a very difficult time reaching the facility before closing time. Shooters in northern Virginia have very few other options! Bull Run is the only public shotgun shooting facility in northern Virginia, and it is one of the two most popular shooting facilities in the state. Despite these facts, the tax payer funded NVRPA has decided to cut back the hours at Bull Run, even though it is one of the most popular facilities run by the NVRPA. We need your help to keep Bull Run open! Here are two things you can do: First: Call and write NVRPA Executive Director Gary Fenton and tell him you want to restore the hours at Bull Run. He can be reached at (703) 352-5900, or by mail at NVRPA, 5400 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, Virginia 22039. Second: Attend the Friends of Bull Run organizational meeting on Thursday, July 15, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the Bull Run Shooting Center club house. Friends of Bull Run is a citizens organization dedicated to raising money for the Shooting Center and advising NVRPA on its operation. To reach Bull Run, take I-66 to Exit 52 (Route 29) at Centreville, drive 2 miles south, turn left onto Bull Run Post Office Road and follow the signs to the park entrance. Remember NVRPA is funded with your tax dollars, so you need to make your voice heard to ensure that your dollars are used to serve shooters in Northern Virginia.
