Apache Junction, Arizona Police Department Destroying Firearms!

Thursday, October 5, 2006

Please Contact the City Council Toady!

The town of Apache Junction has been in the news over the last few days for the Police Chief's wanton destruction of over 1,200 confiscated firearms.  The estimated cost of those firearms, if sold legally through a dealer, would have been approximately $150,000, which could have been granted back to the police department for purchase of much-needed equipment.  Police Chief Glenn Walp, failed to follow procedure that could have resulted in returning stolen firearms to their rightful owners.

The Apache Junction City Council needs to hold a public hearing in order to establish a procedure that would benefit the community, however they are currently considering a "work session" that would not permit the public to comment.

Please take the time to call the Apache Junction City Council and ask that public input be considered when determining policy and that destroying firearms does nothing to benefit the law-abiding community.

The contact information is as follows:

Mayor Douglas Coleman
(480) 982-7226

Council Member Richard M. Dietz

(480) 982-9511

Council Member John Insalaco

Council Member Kris Sippel

Apache Junction Vice-Mayor R.E. Eck, who brought this to the NRA's attention, is asking NRA members to contact the City Council and demand that the public be allowed to voice their opinions on this matter.  Vice-Mayor Eck will discuss the issue on NRA News on Tuesday, October 10, at 8:40 P.M. Arizona time.
