Gun-Ban Extremists Attacking Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Illinois!

Friday, March 9, 2007

Gun-ban extremists are making headway with their attacks on our Right to Keep and Bear Arms!

On Wednesday, March 7, the Senate Public Health Committee passed Senate Bill 16, sponsored by Senator Antonio Munoz (D-1), which seeks to ban countless semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns, certain parts that can be added to a firearm, magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and .50 caliber rifles and ammunition.  This legislation would also require anyone currently in possession of the affected firearms, magazines and ammunition feeding devices, parts, or ammunition to register such private property with the State Police within 90 days of the law being enacted.  House Bill 873, sponsored by State Representative Edward Acevedo (D-2), is the House version of SB 16.  It is critical that all Illinois citizens who support our Right to Keep and Bear Arms contact their Senators and Representatives and urge them to oppose SB 16 and HB 873!

In addition, let your elected officials know that you want them to oppose ALL attacks on law-abiding gun owners.  Other anti-gun bills currently being considered include: House Bill 731, sponsored by State Representative Deborah Graham (D-78), which seeks to expand the current mandatory storage law and make it virtually impossible for law-abiding gun owners to store a firearm in a way that would leave it readily accessible for self-defense. House Bill 796, also sponsored by Representative Graham, and its companion bill Senate Bill 1399, sponsored by State Senator Don Harmon (D-39), seek to create a new state-based licensing bureaucracy for firearm dealers.  House Bill 1078, sponsored by State Representative Luis Arroyo (D-3), and Senate Bill 102, sponsored by State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-3), seek to limit the number of handguns a law-abiding citizen may purchase in a 30-day period.

It is critical that you contact your State Senators and State Representatives and respectfully urge them to OPPOSE all of these bills and to protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

The Illinois State Senate can be contacted at (217) 782-5715.  The Illinois House of Representatives can be contacted at (217) 782-8223.
