The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to close certain areas in Nye County to recreational shooting. The BLM's reason for the closure is the rapid increase in population and growth of Pahrump, NV, which the agency says has created conflicts between new residential owners and target shooters.
The public comment period has been extended to May 2. Comments can be mailed to the BLM’s Las Vegas Field Office, 4701 North Torrey Pines, Las Vegas, NV 89130, or by e-mail using the Federal eRulemaking Portal: http://www.regulations.gov. For further information, you can call (702) 515-5000.
More and more public land is being closed to recreational shooters. When development comes to the edge of public lands or recreational use conflicts arise, it is the recreational shooter who loses in the fight to protect access. The trend will continue unless shooters get involved!
BLM is exempting hunting from the shooting closure—for now. But it’s safe to say that those who complain about target shooting will inevitably go after hunting!
It is imperative that the BLM hears from you and everyone you know who believes in the protection of shooting sports on public lands! Please contact the BLM today!
