Cox, along with representatives of Safari Club International, contacted Northwest executives personally, soon after the airline announced it would charge up to $300 in excess baggage charges for gun cases. “I’m pleased that we could work with Northwest Airlines on this issue,” said Cox. “I’m happy to report that Northwest now has one of the most generous policies in the airline industry when it comes to transporting firearms, and I hope other airlines will follow their lead.”

In a happy development for those who fly with their firearms, Northwest Airlines has changed its baggage policy to once again include gun cases in passengers’ free luggage allowance. Northwest went even farther to solve problems for gun owners by excluding gun cases entirely from the standard size limit of 62” (total length + height + width). Many rifle and shotgun cases wouldn’t fit within that limit.
