Update on Pending Legislation in Alabama!

Friday, April 27, 2007

Senate Bill 62, sponsored by State Senator W.H. Pat Lindsey (D-22) and House Bill 23, sponsored by State Representative David Grimes (R-73) are on the move in the Legislature.  SB 62 passed the Senate by a unanimous vote of 32 to 0.  HB 23 received second reading in the House.  SB 62 and HB 23 would permit a resident to purchase or receive a firearm or ammunition in non-contiguous states and would also allow a non-resident to make a purchase within Alabama, provided it is legal under federal and state law.  Please call your State Representative at (334) 242-7600 and urge him or her to support SB 62 and HB23.

Senate Bill 370, sponsored by State Senator Scott Beason (R-17) and House Bill 598 sponsored by State Representative Marc Keahey (D-65) would protect our Second Amendment rights during a state of emergency by prohibiting any government agency from regulating the lawful sale, possession, transfer, transport and carry of firearms.  SB 370 is pending action in Senate Governmental Affairs Committee and HB 598 is pending in the House Judiciary Committee.  Please contact members of the Senate at (334) 242-7800 and urge them to support SB 370 and members of the House at (334) 242-7600 and ask them to support HB 598.

Finally, anti-gun legislation House Bill 600, sponsored by State Representative Patricia Todd (D-54), is pending in the House Judiciary committee.  HB 600 would increase fees and require law-abiding citizens to register their firearms with the Department of Public Safety.

Please contact your State Representative and urge him or her to oppose HB 600.  Your State Representative can be reached at (334) 242-7600.
