Pro-Gun Bills Ready to Break Loose in Arizona Legislature

Monday, April 27, 2009

Please Stand-Up and Make Your Voices Heard!

Several major policy bills could be moving forward as early as this week.  Once the budget negotiations have concluded, a flood of legislation is expected to emerge, including important measures such as those listed below.  It is vital that NRA members contact their state legislators to politely remind them that these are priority bills.

NRA is working hard to pass
House Bill 2474, sponsored by State Representatives John Kavanagh (R-8) and Frank Antenori (R-30), which would permit law-abiding citizens to keep a firearm locked in their privately owned vehicle when parked on their employer’s publicly accessible parking lot.  HB2474 could be before the House Committee of the Whole this week.  Please contact your State Representatives today and respectfully urge them to support HB2474.

If passed, HB2474 would permit a law-abiding individual to store their firearms in their locked motor vehicle while parked on a publicly accessible parking lot controlled by their employer or a business they frequent.  This bill will protect your right to keep a firearm in your car if you choose to hunt or target shoot before or after work.  HB2474 would also allow an individual to keep a firearm in their vehicle for self-defense during their commute to and from work.

Senate Bill 1113, introduced by State Senator Jack Harper (R-4), would give customers the right to take handguns into restaurants.  Restaurant owners who do not want firearms in their establishments would be required to post a sign.  SB1113 has been through First Reading and is now awaiting a committee assignment in the Senate.

Senate Bill 1243, sponsored by State Senator Russell Pearce (R-18), would clarify the statutory definition of defensive display of a firearm.  SB1243 is also awaiting a Senate committee assignment.

Your quick action in support of these bills could make a huge difference in whether or not they move forward or get buried under the bill pile.  Please contact your State Representatives and respectfully urge them to pass HB2474.  Also, please contact your State Senator and voice your support for SB1113 and SB1243.  For contact information, please visit
