Two robbers in Jacksonville, Fla. confronted Keith Lofton outside a home where he was spending time with friends. The criminals asked for a ride in Loftin’s truck; then, one man drew a gun and forced Loftin into the truck. Loftin’s friend, Barry Smith, witnessed the carjacking and ran inside the house to retrieve a gun. When Smith returned, Loftin retrieved a firearm from his truck, and both fired at the carjackers, striking one multiple times and causing the other to flee. The wounded criminal was taken to a local hospital and will be charged with armed carjacking when he is released. No charges have been filed against Loftin or Smith.
