Virginia: State Senate to Vote on <BR>Three Important Pro-Gun Bills this Thursday!

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

This Thursday, the Virginia Senate is expected to vote on three bills of great interest to gun owners, including One-Gun-A-Month, optional fingerprinting and “Castle Doctrine” legislation.  Please contact your state Senator and respectfully urge him or her to support the following legislation:

Drafted by the NRA and sponsored by state Senator Bill Carrico (R-40), Senate Bill 323 would repeal the prohibition on law-abiding citizens buying more than one handgun within a thirty-day period.  Anti-gun opponents have long claimed that gun rationing keeps handguns out of the hands of criminals, but history has shown this law to be ineffective, and to only affect and penalize law-abiding citizens.

Senate Bill 4, sponsored by state Senator Richard Stuart (R-28), would codify a version of the "Castle Doctrine" allowing the use of physical force, including deadly force, by a person in his dwelling against an intruder in the dwelling who has committed an overt act against him or another person in the dwelling, without civil liability. SB 4 passed in committee by an 8 to 7 vote.

Senate Bill 67, sponsored by state Senator Bill Stanley (R-20), would remove the option for a locality to require an applicant for a concealed handgun permit to submit fingerprints with the application.  SB 67 passed in committee by a 9 to 6 vote.

Again, please contact your state Senator today and urge him or her to stand up for your Second Amendment rights and vote in favor of SB 323, SB 4 and SB 67.  To locate your state Senator and their contact information, please click here.

Also, the House of Delegates is scheduled to vote on the House version of Senate Bill 323, House Bill 940 tomorrow.  This legislation would repeal the prohibition on law-abiding citizens buying more than one handgun within a thirty-day period.  Also, please contact your Delegate and politely urge him or her to support HB 940 when it comes up tomorrow afternoon!  To find your Delegate and his or her contact information, please click here.
