Colorado: Senate President Confesses that Gun Control Measure Will Not Reduce Crime

Governor John Hickenlooper and anti-gun legislators in both legislative chambers have launched an assault on the Second Amendment during the first two weeks of Colorado’s 69th General Assembly.  We can be sure that these misguided proposals will do nothing to decrease crime, and will only serve to impede lawful gun owners from defending themselves and their families against the criminal who will never comply with a gun control law. 

Even Senate President John Morse (D-11) acknowledged that imposing magazine limits will have no effect on "gun violence".  In an interview last week, he rhetorically asked, “How does a limit on high-capacity magazines reduce violence?”

Senator Morse’s remarks challenge the impetus behind the national anti-gun platform that has moved into Colorado to spread misinformation and which is largely funded by anti-gun extremist New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  Now more than ever, it is clear that anti-gun legislators are exploiting this sensitive time to push through their reactionary agendas.  Under the guise of crime reduction, they remain adamant on disenfranchising lawful gun owners, sportsmen, and Second Amendment supporters by pursuing misguided and ineffective legislation.

This unconstitutional legislation includes measures to ban commonly-owned semi-automatic rifles, ban “high capacity magazines,” restrict private firearm sales and reverse the state Supreme Court ruling on Campus Carry, and more.

The time to act is NOW to stop these extremely restrictive measures before it is too late.  Contact your elected officials today and ask them to reject any and all measures that would severely infringe on your Second Amendment rights.  Click here to view contact information for your elected officials in the Colorado General Assembly and Governor Hickenlooper.
