Last month, a group of Claremont residents approached the City Council about drafting a resolution in support of the proposed federal "assault weapon" ban. The City Council placed a proposed resolution on the March 26 City Council Agenda to support the Feinstein Bill, which would ban "assault weapons" and implement stricter federal gun control measures.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) and California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA), reached out to local membership and urged constituents to attend the March 26th meeting and oppose this proposed resolution.
In the face of strong opposition from local NRA and CRPA members, the Claremont City Council removed the proposed "assault weapon" resolution from the City Council Agenda. For now at least, the City Council is not taking any further action on the proposed resolution.
With this latest success, the NRA and CRPA continue to defend the gun rights of Californians by fighting for the Second Amendment at the grassroots level. With continued local activism, the NRA and CRPA can continue to defeat ill-conceived proposals that curtail our Second Amendment rights.
