Colorado: Update on Pro-Gun Legislation in Denver

Friday, February 14, 2014

Today, the following two pro-gun bills were considered in the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee:

Senate Bill 90, sponsored by state Senator Randy Baumgardner (R-8), would have eliminated the requirement for step-relatives to submit to a background check during the legal transfer of a firearm.  Unfortunately, SB 90 was defeated by a 3-2 vote.

Senate Bill 135, sponsored by state Senator Greg Brophy (R-1), would repeal restrictions in state law relating to the purchase and sale of rifles and shotguns in non-contiguous states, permitting the purchase and sale of firearms in states not bordering Colorado by both residents and non-residents.  This bill was amended and unanimously referred to the full Senate for further consideration.

Over the past two weeks, several pro-gun bills have been heard in legislative committees, about which we have previously reported here and here.  The NRA thanks all of our members who attended committee meetings and called their state legislators in support of these measures.  Now more than ever, we need your continued support and participation to fight for Second Amendment freedoms.  In addition, the NRA thanks and applauds all of the state legislators who introduced and supported the pro-gun bills heard this week, especially state Representatives Chris Holbert (R-44), Justin Everett (R-22) and Lori Saine (R-63), and state Senators Greg Brophy (R-1), Scott Renfroe (R-13), Randy Baumgardner (R-8), George Rivera (R-3) and Bernie Herpin (R-11).  Without their tireless work and the diligent work of our members, the fight for your Second Amendment rights would be futile.

More than ever, your NRA encourages you to stay vigilant and continue to support pro-gun legislation as it comes before the state House and Senate.  As always, keep an eye on your e-mail and www.nraila.org for more information.
