This week, the following two pro-gun bills are expected to be heard in committee:
Tomorrow, February 11, House Bill 91 is scheduled for a hearing in the House Licensing and Occupations Committee at 9:00 A.M., in Room 169 of the state Capitol. HB 91, introduced by state Representative James Kay (D-56), would clarify certain aspects of Kentucky’s charitable gaming statutes and afford groups, such as the Friends of NRA, the opportunity to host more events throughout the state. HB 91 would also streamline the reporting process for those on the charitable gaming license.
Thursday, February 12, Senate Bill 67 is expected to be heard in the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee at 9:00 A.M., in Room 169 of the state Capitol. SB 67, introduced by state Senator C.B. Embry (R-6), would allow recognition of an NRA firearms safety and training course as a qualifying class when applying for a concealed deadly weapons license (CDWL). By adding this NRA curriculum, SB 67 would allow citizens the option for training when obtaining a CDWL and would help ease the timeline, cost and process.
Please contact the members of the House Licensing and Occupations Committee and politely urge them to SUPPORT HB 91. Please also contact members of the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee and urge them to SUPPORT SB 67. Also recently introduced in the state Senate are Senate Bills 103 and 114.
Senate Bill 103, introduced on February 3 by state Senator Ray Jones (D-31), would create a special National Rifle Association license plate, with the extra costs for the license plate going toward the Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program. This bill has been assigned to the Senate Transportation Committee but has not yet been assigned a hearing date.
Senate Bill 114, introduced on February 4 by state Senator John Schickel (R-11), would prohibit administrative regulations requiring concealed deadly weapon license applicants to clean their firearms in class. Instead, it would replace these requirements with instructor demonstrations. SB 114 would also allow firearms safety instructors to issue certificates of completion rather than the Department of Criminal Justice Training. This bill has been assigned to the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection Committee but has not yet been assigned a hearing date.
