Multiple Anti-Gun Bills Introduced in the Wisconsin Assembly

Multiple Anti-Gun Bills Introduced in the Wisconsin Assembly

Earlier this week, state Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released yet another legislative package of anti-gun bills that once again highlight the ignorance and arrogance of the individuals that will stop at nothing to attack the 2nd Amendment Rights of Wisconsin’s law-abiding gun owners.

Instead of calling for the enforcement of existing laws and actually prosecuting violent criminals, Rep. Subeck goes back to her old bag of tricks to demonize responsible gun owners throughout Wisconsin.

Implementing penalties and creating felonies in order to entrap responsible gun owners is not going to solve the problems our nation faces and neither will the attempts to artificially increase the price of a firearm by mandating the sale of trigger locks or gun safes upon the purchase of a gun.

NRA members and gun owners across Wisconsin see through these veiled attempts to prevent and penalize them from exercising their Second Amendment Rights.  The NRA will continue to oppose these assaults on our fundamental rights and will keep you up-to-date on these anti-gun proposals out of Madison.

Further information on the proposed legislative efforts by Representative Subeck may be found below:

LRB-4399 Creates a requirement to report lost or stolen firearms, and creates criminal penalties for those who are unable to do so within 24 hours.  This legislation is further punishing victims of a crime and assuming that those victims would have an immediate inventory of all property lost.  A burglary/robbery is a traumatic experience and this legislation only seeks to worsen that trauma.

LRB-4400 – Mandates the sale of a firearm safe/lock by a dealer with every firearm sale. This mandate could potentially ramp up the prices of firearms and price individuals out of exercising their Second Amendment rights.

LRB-4412 Seeks to entrap law-abiding gun owners who may not know the full background on possible roommates/housemates.  Despite the fact that violent felons are breaking a pre-existing law if they reside in a building containing a firearm, this bill would criminalize otherwise law-abiding gun owners if they unknowingly live with prohibited persons and leave their gun out on the night stand for self-defense.

LRB-4423 Mandates that all gun owners must lock up their firearms if they reside with a minor under 18 years of age.  This legislation would be virtually unenforceable and has safety concerns to consider.  The mandatory use of a locking device can greatly diminish reaction times under duress.  Being forced to fumble with a lock and key in a self-defense situation could mean the difference between life and death.  If anti-gun legislators were serious about keeping kids safe, they would know that the key to reducing firearm accidents isn't about prosecuting after the fact, it's about educating our children on the safe use of firearms.  For that reason, the National Rifle Association developed the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® accident prevention program that teaches children to, “STOP, DON’T TOUCH, RUN AWAY and TELL A GROWN-UP.”

Your NRA will keep you updated on the status of important legislation in addition to providing a simple and convenient way to contact elected officials.  To help assure success in 2016, please continue to check www.NRAILA.org and your email inbox for alerts on the latest action items
