This week, many pro-gun bills advanced through the Virginia House of Delegates and many anti-gun bills were struck down in the Virginia Senate.
On Wednesday, the Senate Courts of Justice Committee struck down anti-gun efforts, including a bill that would prohibit the carrying of certain loaded firearms in public places. This new prohibition would have narrowed the definition of a firearm and make the prohibition, which previously applied only to certain localities, apply statewide. The committee also struck down efforts to expand background check systems at gun shows as well as efforts to create a gun seizure warrant. In efforts to promote your Second Amendment rights, the House of Delegates Militia, Police and Public Safety Subcommittee #1 advanced many pro-gun measures on Thursday. The members of this subcommittee passed House Bill 1163, legislation that would allow valid out of state concealed carry permits to be recognized in the Commonwealth of Virginia and would also require the Attorney General to enter into reciprocity agreements with those states that would require them. Further, House Bill 766, which would allow the petitioner of a protective order to temporarily conceal carry without a permit,thus affording them immediate self-defense options while waiting for their permit to be approved.
