New York: Outrageous Insurance Bill Headlines Long List of Anti-Gun Bills

The yearly onslaught of anti-gun legislation in the Empire State is concrete proof that anti-gun politicians will never be satisfied until guns are completely banned.  Even though Albany lawmakers passed arguably the nation’s harshest gun control bill in the 2013 SAFE Act, they come back every year for more.  This year is no exception with dozens of anti-gun bills having already been introduced.

One of the more egregious bills this year is A.2260.  Sponsored by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, A.2260 would require gun owners to maintain $250,000 worth of liability insurance.  This is essentially a tax on a constitutional right.  The goal here is simply to make gun ownership so expensive that it prices ordinary citizens out of the market.  A.2260 is a backdoor gun ban, pure and simple.

NRA-ILA staff have been in Albany for several weeks already this session, working against this bill and many others, but it’s imperative that you contact your Assembly member and respectfully request that they oppose this dangerous bill.

A.2260 has not been scheduled for action yet; however, the legislative session moves quickly, and that could change with little or no notice.  Fortunately, we’ve been working closely with pro-gun Majority Senators to make sure this bill is dead on arrival in the upper chamber, but the anti-gun Assembly has a large voting block that is able to advance these types of bills.

Again, please click one of the “Take Action” buttons to contact your Assembly member TODAY and ask them to vote “NO” on A.2260.
