California: AB 424 Passes Assembly - Appropriations Committees to Consider Suspense Items

Yesterday, May 22, anti-gun Assembly Bill 424 passed the Assembly by a vote of 48 – 28.  Sponsored by Kevin McCarty (D-7), AB 424 would remove the authority of a school district superintendent, his or her designee, or equivalent school authority to provide written permission for a person to possess a firearm within a school zone, absent very limited exceptions.  AB 424 is now awaiting committee assignment in the Senate.

Friday, May 26th is the deadline for the fiscal committees to pass bills to the floor from the chamber of origin.

On Thursday, May 25, the Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to consider Senate Bill 464 and Senate Bill 497.

SB 464, sponsored by Senator Jerry Hill (D-13) would increase the storage and security requirements of all firearms in the inventory of a licensed firearms dealer.  California already has some of the strictest laws in the country regarding how dealers must store and secure firearms.  This bill simply places more costs and mandates on law-abiding business owners.

SB 497, sponsored by Senator Anthony Portantino (D-25), would expand the existing one handgun a month law to include ALL guns.

On Friday, May 26, the Assembly Appropriations Committee is scheduled to consider Assembly Bill 986.

AB 986, sponsored by Assembly Member James Gallagher (R-3), would recognize the many sacrifices our veterans have made by reducing sporting license fees in recognition of their service.  This reduction in fees can help veterans who are on a fix income enjoy the many sporting activities California has to offer. Use the take action button below to contact members of the Assembly Appropriations committee and urge them to support AB 986.
