California: Moraga Town Council Holds Final Reading of Mandatory Firearm Storage Ordinance

California: Moraga Town Council Holds Final Reading of Mandatory Firearm Storage Ordinance

On Wednesday, March 14, at 7:00 PM, the Moraga Town Council will have a meeting where a final reading and adoption of a mandatory locked-storage ordinance is scheduled. If enacted, the proposed ordinance would require any person who keeps a handgun in their residence to store the handgun in a locked container or disabled with a DOJ approved gun lock unless carried on their person or in the person’s immediate control.

NRA and CRPA attorneys submitted a comprehensive joint-opposition letter to the Town Council on November 8, 2017 as it first began considering this storage ordinance. That letter highlights the numerous complex and comprehensive reasons why a town like Moraga would fail in their attempts to enact a lawful ordinance of this type and the Town Council pulled the ordinance from further consideration until a later time.

Now that it is a new year, the Town Council has decided to move forward with this ill-guided proposal, with minimal changes, being pushed by anti-gun organizers, which could prove very costly to the town of Moraga.

We encourage all of our members who are able to attend Wednesday’s meeting and voice their opposition to please do so. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers, located at 335 Rheem Blvd., Moraga, CA 94556.

If you are unable to attend, you can call, fax, or email the Town Council to oppose the proposed extension of the moratorium. You can do so using the below information, along with our TAKE ACTION button below to contact the below individuals.
