Kansas: Multiple Anti-Gun Amendments Defeated in the Senate

Yesterday, the Kansas Senate voted down numerous anti-gun amendments to self-defense legislation, House Bill 2042.  Please contact your lawmakers and urge them to continue opposing any new gun control measures!

Defeated amendments are the below:

  • A ban on devices that are designed or function to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi-automatic firearm.  The broad and overreaching provisions in this legislation could potentially criminalize firearm modifications such as competition triggers, and ergonomic changes that are commonly done by law-abiding gun owners to make their firearms more suitable for self-defense, competition, hunting, or even overcoming disability.
  • An attempt to prevent law-abiding adults aged 18 to 20 years old from acquiring a firearm deprives them of their constitutional right to self-defense.  This legislation is outright offensive and demeaning to Kansas’ young adults who are otherwise allowed to vote, join the military, and exercise every other constitutionally guaranteed right.
  • Language that sought to repeal Kansas’ Constitutional Carry, as well as the repeal of campus carry.
  • Another amendment was voted down that attempted to impose a 3 day waiting period on the purchase of a firearm.

Your NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available for the 2018 Legislative Session.
