Oregon: Anti-Gun Bills Will Not Be Moving Forward

Last week, a pro-Second Amendment group of Senators took a stand against Senate Bill 978 by refusing to participate in floor sessions until the omnibus gun control bill was withdrawn from consideration.  Yesterday, Oregon Senate Leadership reached an agreement that anti-gun legislation, which includes SB 978, will not be moving forward this year and is defeated for the session.

If your Senator is on the list below, please click the "Take Action" button to thank them and Senator Minority Leader Baertschiger for fighting on behalf of law-abiding Oregonians- either by refusing to attend floor sessions or for other efforts that were instrumental in defeating SB 978.

District 1, Sen. Dallas Heard
District 2, Sen. Herman Baertschiger
District 9, Sen. Fred Girod
District 10, Sen. Jackie Winters
District 12, Sen. Brian Boquist
District 13, Sen. Kim Thatcher
District 16, Sen. Betsy Johnson
District 20, Sen. Alan Olsen
District 26, Sen. Chuck Thomsen
District 27, Sen. Tim Knopp
District 28, Sen. Dennis Linthicum
District 29, Sen. Bill Hansell
District 30, Sen. Cliff Bentz

Additionally, thank you to the NRA members and Second Amendment supporters who attended committee hearings, attended one or more of NRA-ILA’s Oregon Grassroots Workshops, or contacted their legislators throughout the session.

While Senate Bill 978 will not be moving forward this session, anti-gun legislators have already announced they intend to reintroduce a similar version next year or potentially file a ballot initiative in 2020.  It’s imperative that Second Amendment supporters continue to stay involved in the fight to protect self-defense rights in Oregon.  Your NRA will remain at the Capitol on a daily basis through the remainder of the session, so please stay tuned to your email inbox and www.nraila.org for further updates.

Again, please click the "Take Action" button to thank Senate Minority Leader Baertschiger and your state Senator if they opposed SB 978.
