California: Gun Show Ban Legislation Eligible for a Vote in the Senate

Your state Senator must hear your OPPOSITION to SB 281

Senate Bill 281 is eligible for third reading and a floor vote in the Senate.  Contact your state Senator TODAY and urge him/her to OPPOSE SB 281.

SB 281, sponsored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-11), prohibits the sale of firearms and ammunition on any property owned, occupied, operated or controlled by the 1-A Agricultural Association, which includes the Cow Palace.  SB 281 was introduced in 2019 and held in the Senate Appropriations Committee until last week.

The sale of firearms and ammunition are strictly regulated throughout California by both federal and state laws.  These laws apply regardless of whether the transaction takes place at a gun show or a brick and mortar shop.  It is obvious that SB 281 is not legislation that will actually help reduce access by prohibited persons, but another tactic by anti-gun extremists targeting the First and Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.  Just last year, in an NRA supported case, a federal Judge placed an injunction against the prohibition on gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Please use the TAKE ACTION button above to contact your state Senator to OPPOSE SB 281.  Don’t forget to forward this message to your family, friends, and fellow gun owners and urge them to do the same.

Also last week, the Assembly Appropriations Committee held Assembly Bill 18 in committee.  AB 18, sponsored by Assembly Member Marc Levine (D - 10), imposes a $25 excise tax on the purchase of a handgun, semiautomatic rifle or shotgun sold as new from a dealer.   The bill also creates a new excise tax on ammunition dealers for an unspecified percentage of the gross receipts from any sale of ammunition.

Your NRA will continue to fight to promote and protect your right to keep and bear arms and hunting heritage.

Check your inbox and the California Stand and Fight web page for updates on issues impacting your Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage in California.
