Virginia: Last Chance For Gun Ban in Committee

February 7th is the last hearing of the House Public Safety Committee before the crossover deadline. It is the last chance for Bloomberg’s anti-gun cronies to get their coveted House Bill 961 out of committee and rushing to Governor Northam’s desk. The anti-gun majority has already demonstrated their disdain for law-abiding citizens by passing numerous bills to cast your right of self-defense aside, but a comprehensive gun ban remains Bloomberg’s #1 demand.

Second Amendment supporters have remained engaged throughout session and have made unprecedented showings in support of our rights. We must join together once again in Richmond on February 7th to show the Public Safety Committee that we will stand and fight for our freedom.

House Bill 961 is similar to Senate Bill 16 that was withdrawn on January 13th. It is a comprehensive ban on many commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, suppressors, and standard capacity magazines. The ban also extends to any part that could be used to change a firearm into a banned configuration. The bill also imposes a licensing and registration scheme for citizens who wish to keep affected firearms they lawfully owned prior to the ban. Not only does this force law-abiding citizens to pay the government to protect their loved ones, but also creates a pathway for confiscation, a goal that lawmakers were openly considering recently. There is no option for citizens to keep their lawfully acquired suppressors and magazines with capacities greater than ten rounds, forcing them to dispose of their property, become a felon, or surrender it to the government.

Please consider joining your fellow Second Amendment supporters in Richmond on February 7th. In addition, please also call committee members and ask them to OPPOSE HB 961.
