Florida Alert! Anti-gun Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried Takes One Step Back Over Lawsuit

Thursday, June 11, 2020

Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried has been knowingly and willfully violating the law and Constitutional rights.  It’s a shame it took a lawsuit to make her do her job and take a step back from breaking the law.

At a press conference early Thursday morning, June 11, Fried announced that she is opening one (ONLY ONE) regional office and the online portal for CWL applications on Monday, June 15, 2020.

It has been suggested that Fried is hoping that by opening one office and the online portal, she can get a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed in May by the Young Americans for Liberty (YAL).  The organization filed the lawsuit claiming Fried is depriving Floridians of their rights by suspending the online processing of concealed weapons or firearms license applications.

Hoping a judge will dismiss the lawsuit declaring it "moot" because she has opened one office -- in our opinion -- is no different from a bank robber becoming afraid he will be caught, then voluntarily returning the money and hoping he won't be prosecuted for breaking the law.

Speaking when the lawsuit was filed: “Nikki Fried thinks that your right to self-defense is negotiable. She’s wrong,” said Cliff Maloney, YAL President. “This is a blatant disregard for the rule of law, and I will not idly sit by while Nikki Fried uses this crisis to enact her gun-grabbing agenda. I encourage all Americans to join this fight for our rights. We either believe in liberty in times of crisis or we do not believe in liberty at all.”

Following today's press conference, Attorneys for Maloney said, “We have no intention of voluntarily dropping our lawsuit based on today’s announcement. There is a reasonable expectation that this violation of law by the Department will recur unless adjudicated by the courts.”

Online portal for concealed weapons license applications to reopen on June 15

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Tallahassee regional licensing office will be reopening on June 15.

Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday morning.

In addition to the reopening, the FDACS Division of Licensing online portal for concealed weapons license applications will return on June 15, as fingerprint services will be available at the Tallahassee regional office.

I’m pleased to announce that with enhanced safety measures, we will reopen to the public our Tallahassee regional office on Monday, June 15, and reopen our online portal for concealed weapons license applications.”

In March, FDACS closed nine regional offices due to public health concerns from COVID-19........
