Iowa: Constitutional Carry Omnibus Bill Moves to Floor

Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed Senate Study Bill 1232 by a vote of 9-5. The House Public Safety committee passed House Study Bill 254 by a vote of 12-8 on Tuesday. These bills greatly improve self-defense in Iowa and are now eligible for floor debate in their respective chambers. Please contact your lawmakers to SUPPORT SSB 1232 and HSB 254, without any weakening amendments.

Senate Study Bill 1232 and House Study Bill 254 allow a law-abiding adult to carry a concealed firearm, without first needing to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have their right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. In addition, the bills also add the option for law-abiding citizens to pass a federal background check to acquire a handgun without obtaining a Permit to Acquire, ensure that public housing cannot deny Second Amendment rights to tenants, ensure that local governments cannot restrict lawful carrying of firearms, expand the types of training accepted for a Permit to Carry Weapons, and other Second Amendment provisions.
