Indiana: Constitutional Carry Assigned to Senate Judiciary Committee

House Bill 1077, the constitutional carry bill, has received an assignment to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The House previously passed HB 1077 by an overwhelming majority on January 12^th and sent it to the Senate. Last year, the House passed similar legislation, also by an overwhelming majority, but the Senate refused to hear it in committee. This year, the same committee refused to allow a vote on another constitutional carry bill. Please contact the committee chair, Sen. Liz Brown, and ask that she schedule HB 1077 for a full and fair hearing and vote.

House Bill 1077 allows any law-abiding adult who is legally eligible to obtain a carry permit, to carry a handgun without first having to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have their right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. It does not affect previously issued carry permits, and allows citizens who still wish to obtain a permit in order to carry in other states recognizing Indiana permits, to do so.
