Indiana: Legislature Adjourns, Two Pro-Gun Bills Headed to the Governor

On Friday, the Indiana Legislature adjourned for the 2024 session. Two pieces of pro-gun legislation passed through both chambers and are headed to Governor Holcomb for his signature. The legislature approved House Bill 1084, The Second Amendment Privacy Act, prohibiting the use of firearm-related Merchant Category Codes, and House Bill 1235, providing protections for members of the firearms industry against frivolous lawsuits. Please contact Governor Holcomb by using the Take Action button below and urge him to sign HB 1084 and HB 1235 into law.

HB 1084 (Authored by Rep. Jake Teshka) prohibits the use of firearm/ammunition specific merchant category codes by payment processors. This is an important protection for gun owners, guards private purchasing information from abuse by third parties. This legislation was amended in conference committee to also allow constitutional officers to carry a concealed firearm in the capitol complex.

HB 1235 (Authored by Rep. Chris Jeter) will make Indiana law consistent with other states by prohibiting local governments from lodging frivolous lawsuits against firearm manufacturers. For years cities like Gary, Indiana have sued firearm manufacturers for the unlawful misuse of their products by criminals. This bill will give firearm manufacturers in Indiana these same protections.

NRA will be back in Indianapolis for the 2025 legislative session. Meanwhile, please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates on issues affecting our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage in Indiana.
