Michigan: Anti-Gun Legislators Make Final Push Before Close of Session

With less than seven session days remaining, anti-gun legislators are aggressively pushing several bills that threaten the Second Amendment rights of Michigan citizens. These efforts come as they aim to cement their legacy before losing the majority in the House this January. Your voice is needed now as bills can be scheduled with little notice in the final days of session. Click the multiple take action buttons below to urge the committees to OPPOSE these bills.

Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety

  • Bills are eligible for hearings but have not been scheduled at the time of this posting.

Senate Bill 1086: Creates a “Do Not Sell” list for firearms that temporarily and indefinitely suspends an individual’s Second Amendment rights. Although joining the list is voluntary, removal from it is exceedingly difficult.

Senate Bills 1149 & 1150: Propose severe restrictions on "home built" firearms and the raw materials used to make them.

Senate Bill 942: Seeks to ban bump stocks, making them illegal to own, sell, or possess in Michigan—imposing stricter regulations than those governing machine guns. This comes despite the U.S. Supreme Court overturning the federal ban on bump stocks earlier this year.

Senate Bill 1134: Introduces regulations on firearm color and bans so-called “deceptively colored” firearms targeting firearms with a camouflage pattern.

Senate Bill 1135: Prohibits the sale of imitation firearms in Michigan, with limited exceptions.

Please use the take action button below to contact the Senate committee and ask that they OPPOSE these bills.

Senate Committee on Education

  • Bills are eligible for hearings but have not been scheduled at the time of this posting.

House Bills 5450 & 5451: Mandates public schools annually post and distribute information regarding the state’s safe storage laws to the parents and guardians of every enrolled student.

Please use the take action button below to contact the Senate committee and ask that they OPPOSE these bills.

House Judiciary Committee

  • Bills are eligible for hearings but have not been scheduled at the time of this posting.

House Bills 6183, 6184, and 6185: Directly undermines the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act by abolishing immunity for firearm manufacturers opening them up to lawsuits by local governments and to civil liability. These bills also mandate purchase or presentation of a trigger lock or secure storage container when purchasing a firearm.

Please use the take action button below and tell the House committee to OPPOSE these bills.
