This week, extreme anti-hunting lawmakers testified to restrict coyote hunting in Maine. As expected, anti-hunting advocates and progressive lawmakers launched a barrage of inaccurate statements in a desperate attempt to limit the critical practice of coyote hunting in the Pine Tree State. One of the many falsehoods came from the bill's sponsor, Representative Nina Milliken (D- Blue Hill), who believes that deer do not live in northern Maine.

While coastal Rep. Nina Milliken may be unaware of the happenings of inland Maine, one would hope she would be familiar with basic Maine ecology to understand that deer do live in northern Maine. Hunters from all over the world go to northern Maine to hunt for some of the largest deer in the state, as the area produces many of the coveted "Biggest Bucks in Maine." In fact, the largest buck harvested in 2024 came from Fort Fairfield, Maine, weighing in at 261 pounds.
This type of anti-science misinformation will likely be commonplace over the next several weeks as the Maine Legislature debates many hunting-related bills. To combat this, NRA members are urged to contact their local lawmakers and urge them to OPPOSE any and all legislation that limits hunting rights in Maine.
