Florida: Pro-Gun Bills Advance in House and Senate Committees

This week, the Florida House and Senate Criminal Justice Committees passed multiple pro-gun bills including House Bill 759 restoring the ability for young adults to acquire firearms, and companion bills, Senate Bill 952 and House Bill 6025, protecting our Second Amendment Rights during a local state of emergency. These bills now advance for additional policy committee hearings as early as next week. Please use the two separate Take Action buttons below to engage with legislators and encourage them to SUPPORT pro-gun legislation!

House Bill 759 and House Bill 6025 now move to the House Judiciary Committee, next scheduled to meet on Thursday, March 20, at 8:00 AM, where both bills could be considered. At this time, an official committee agenda has not been posted. Use the Take Action link below to contact the House Judiciary Committee members and urge them to SUPPORT House Bill 759 and House Bill 6025!

House Bill 759 restores the ability for young adults to acquire firearms by lowering the minimum age requirement to purchase from 21 to 18. Since 2018, the NRA has been litigating against the state, challenging Florida’s ban on transferring firearms to young adults.

House Bill 6025 repeals automatic prohibitions that violate Floridians’ Second Amendment rights during a public disorder state of local emergency. The following acts are automatic prohibitions that this legislation would repeal: the intentional possession of a firearm in public, the sale of any ammunition or firearms, and the intentional display of ammunition or firearms in a store.

Senate Bill 952 will next be considered in the Senate Community Affairs Committee. Neither a committee hearing date or agenda has been posted at this time. Use the Take Action link below to contact the Senate Community Affairs Committee members and urge them to SUPPORT Senate Bill 952!

Senate Bill 952 repeals automatic prohibitions that violate Floridians’ Second Amendment rights during a public disorder state of local emergency. The following acts are automatic prohibitions that this legislation would repeal: the intentional possession of a firearm in public, the sale of any ammunition or firearms, and the intentional display of ammunition or firearms in a store.
